What is "Framing Design"?
Over the years, custom framing has evolved from simple "picture framing" to a craft which involves creativity and know-how by specialists. With the help of makers of fine moulding and conservation matting, backing and glazing materials, designers and framers have been able to transform and enhance artwork into "Works of Art".

Why A Custom Framer?
If you were planning to build a new home for your family, would you ask the
person working in the lumber department of your local home improvement store to
draw up the plans? Or, if you were sick, would you ask the checkout person at
your drug store to diagnose and treat your illness? Probably not.
The same reasoning applies to your decision to use a custom framer's services. A
professional picture framer is a person who has been formally educated to know
how to preserve, protect and beautify works of art, regardless of their known
value. Many hold the professional degree of Certified Picture Framer or CPF.
This notation can only be used with one's name after a rigorous, standardized
test has been passed. CPF is to framing as Dr. is to medicine.

Treasured pieces of art and memorabilia deserve the best possible treatment that you can give them.
Once they have made their way from underneath the bed or from the "stuff" box in the basement (or attic) and you have decided to finally make them available for all to see and enjoy, the best thing to do is take them to Royale Art Salon framing department. Our design team will assist you in choosing the mat colours, glazing and moulding that best suits the needs of the artwork and you, the customer.
Our team will, of course, always choose conservation framing for your most treasured items. Longevity and the many years of joy and satisfaction far out-weigh the extra costs involved in choosing conservation materials over regular materials.
Designing Your Framing Package

Although a good artistic eye
is something that can't be taught, there are certain rules of custom framing
which lead to good design that can enhance, beautify and protect your artwork
for a lifetime. When followed, these guidelines, well known
to Royale Art Salon, produce a
beautiful, well-balanced framing presentation that enhances the work of art
without overpowering it.
For example, did you know that the width of the mat border should never match
the width of the frame? This tends to draw the eye away from the art they
surround. Or that a poorly placed decorative element, such as a French line, can
detract from the beauty of the finished package?
Creativity in custom framing design can be endless and you can be certain that Fred and Marie will guide you through the designing process . Together, we can create a piece of art or create a memorabilia package that will endure the test of time and you will cherish for years to come.
